School Green Improvements
Some time ago I mentioned in the Newsletter and circulated to local residents a letter outlining the idea floated by the Civic Society of a project to improve the riverside setting of School Green.
This would be in line with the Society's constitutional objective to enhance the amenity of our local area.
Since then, in order to put some flesh on the bones of this proposal, we have worked with Midlothian Council's Land Services to list a series of potential improvements, and these are illustrated on the attached plan.
This plan is only a first attempt at determining what the project might comprise. It is intended that the schedule of improvements finally agreed will be refined by a process of consultation with the local community, of which this is the first step.
The next step will be a meeting in the Pavilion next month at which the local community can respond to these suggestions and put forward other ideas they may wish to see considered.
It is not clear at this stage what funding we shall be able to attract for this purpose, but the extent of funding will determine the extent of work, and whatever this may amount to, it would be the intention to prioritise the suggested work to deliver what the community consider provides the greatest benefit from the funds eventually available.
The date of the meeting will be announced on the website shortly.
In the meantime comments can be sent to me by post at 7 Wadingburn Lane, EH18 1HG or at tomdelaney@microsolsales.freeserve.co.uk
A copy of the plan and of this letter is displayed in the Post Office, and they are also available on www.lasswade.free-online.co.uk.
Your views will be welcome and we hope this consultation will help guide the project.
